Mum and Baby

Mum and baby yoga with Alison Goodwin BA BWY

Mondays 11 am - 12 noon

St Columba's Church Hall, Priory Street, off Micklegate, York

£5 per session, all equipment provided

Yoga is ideal post-natally because it develops your intuition, encouraging you to trust yourself as a mother. The class continues the support you enjoyed at our Yoga for Pregnancy classes – though you don’t have to have been to Yoga for Pregnancy to join.  Each class includes time for discussion on aspects of parenting a young baby, with the emphasis on tuning into your instincts.  Through sharing ideas and creating space to relax with your baby we will help you find your own way to be a parent – after all, every mother and every baby is unique.

Yoga postures prepare you for the physical and mental challenges of parenthood and help restore your body confidence.  Our breathing, stretching, strengthening and relaxation exercises are specifically designed.  You will learn how to involve your baby in your yoga practice, protect your back when caring for your baby and how to relax together.  Classes include gentle movement and sound practices to relax the babies.  Babies benefit from a more relaxed mum, and having a few ideas to calm and settle your baby enhances your relationship and daily routine.

We are delighted that so many fathers are actively involved with their babies and understand that many care full or part time for their children – so Dads are very welcome to join us to share the benefits of yoga and spending time with other parents.

Our class is at St. Columbas’ Basement Hall, Priory Street, off Micklegate, 11am – 12.00 noon on Mondays.  The hall is down some wide steps that are easily negotiated with a pram or pushchair.  The fee is £5 per class payable in blocks of six with some flexibility for holidays and illness – please ask.  We recommend that you start the class from six weeks after the birth of your baby but do speak to your GP, Midwife or Health Visitor if you have any concerns or there were complications with your birth.   There is no need to book for this class.  Equipment is provided.
